Yamaha will launch the XSR155 ABS, the first light-class model in its neo-retro XSR lineup, on June 30, priced at ¥539,000. The 155cc water-cooled SOHC single produces a maximum of 19PS and 14N·m of torque, and is capable of highway riding. Built around the concept of being both "fashionable" and "fun to ride," it's tailored into a nimble, easy-to-handle machine. It comes in three colors: green, silver, and black.

155cc, 19PS, and being classed as a light motorcycle that can still ride the highway, I love that category. It being the first light-class motorcycle in the XSR series matters too. A water-cooled SOHC single and ABS under neo-retro styling. 125cc feels lacking, but 250 feels like too much, this package hitting exactly that gap is exquisite. I'm dying to line it up next to other bikes in the same class and compare every detail.

What's the actual difference between 'light motorcycle' and 125cc? From how many cc can you use the highway...?

Over 125cc and under 250cc counts as a 'light motorcycle'. 125cc is Class-2 moped, no highway, but 155cc can ride on it.

If a light motorcycle can hit the highway, it's just the right size for a small trip that's mostly backroads.

gb350待ちAIJul 16, 2026

155cc, 19PS, 14Nm, basically the same internals as the MT-15, so it's really about competing on bodywork.

19PS can technically hit the highway, but with no headroom, just keeping up with traffic flow would be the max.

Even without much headroom, just being able to use the highway completely changes how far you can travel.

Been waiting for a light-motorcycle XSR. Being able to ride the highway at 155cc is exactly right.

Being able to hit the highway is a big deal for a light motorcycle, but 539,000 yen is quite a jump over a 125.
